Aerobie Aeropress Coffee Maker Review

Aerobie Aeropress Coffee Maker Review

We’re always on the lookout for ways to make the best cup of coffee, so we thought it was about time that we investigated the Aerobie Aeropress coffee maker to see what all the fuss was about.

Aerobie Inc. don’t have a solid background in making coffee machines that you would expect from a product that has so many rave reviews. In fact before the Aeropress they didn’t make coffee makers at all. Aerobie Inc. began its life when founder Alan Adler, a part-time lecturer at Stanford University and consultant engineer began inventing innovative sports toys.

The Aerobie Pro Ring entered the Guinness Book of World Records in 2003 for “the longest throw of any object without any velocity aiding feature” with a massive distance of 1333 feet (406 metres).

So why on earth would you want to trust your vital cup of morning coffee to a company that makes sports toys? The answer to that is that Aerobie is a company founded on innovation and they are not afraid to look for ideas where many conventional coffee companies wouldn’t even dream of. So let’s look at what the Aerobie Aeropress has to offer.

The Aerobie Aeropress System Components

1.  Aeropress – The funny looking plastic plunger that’s the genius behind the system.

2. Funnel – Keeps your coffee where it should be, rather than on the counter top.

3. Scoop – Measure out exactly the right amount of coffee grounds for your perfect cuppa.

4. Stirrer – Pretty self-explanatory, but it saves on spoons.

5. A Year’s Supply of Microfilters – In a standard kit that’s 350 microfilters & if you’re anything like us then 350 doesn’t even come close to being a year’s supply.  The good news is that a lot of suppliers give you an extra 350 filters giving you a total of 700 which is much more like it.  And even if they don’t, you can pick up extra filters for about $5 for a 350 microfilter pack – making the running costs of the Aeropress next to nothing.

The Aerobie Aeropress is a total immersion coffee “machine” which means that all of the coffee grounds are in contact with the water.  It is similar in function to a French Press, which many people think makes the best coffee, but it uses a paper microfilter instead of a metal filter.

Pros & Cons of The Aerobie Coffee Maker

It’s cheap – You can pick one up from for under $30.  Some reviews have said that they’ve put away their expensive espresso machines costing more than ten times as much in favor of the Aerobie.

It makes fabulous coffee – By using lower temperatures Aerobie have found a way to brew a delicious cup of joe, keeping all the flavor but without the bitterness from the acidity that you get with conventional coffee brewers.

It’s incredibly easy to clean – This is a tremendous plus point for us. The thought of having to scoop out all the damp gungy grounds from a French Press or scrub all those hard to reach areas of an espresso machine can almost put us of making coffee in the first place.  Almost, but not quite, but having a coffee maker that practically cleans itself apart from a little rinse is just a gift from the gods.

It won’t do everything for you – Unlike a drip coffee machine you can’t just switch it on, go do something else and then come back to a freshly brewed pot of coffee. Having said that, the time it takes to make is miniscule & there really is very little effort involved.

It’s small – This might not be the coffee maker for you if you need to cater for dozens of guests.  You can make one or two cups at a time, but they will be extra fresh rather than sitting for hours on end.

It won’t keep your coffee warm for you –  This is strictly a make it and drink it machine, if you want more then you’ll need to make another cup.  But we think that the advantage of having super fresh coffee every time outweighs the slight inconvenience of having to make yourself another cup.

That’s just a small sample of the hundreds of Aeropress coffee maker reviews that you can find online. But it’s one of the best cheap coffee maker I have for you.
